Proper earthing (grounding) is critical for claiming inverter warranties. Solar inverters contain sensitive electronic components, power transistors (IGBTs), and surge protection devices (SPDs) designed to divert electrical surges, lightning strikes, and leakage currents safely to the ground.

If a solar plant lacks dedicated, low-resistance earthing (typically below 5 Ohms), residual leakage voltage or transient surges can damage the inverter’s internal circuitry. Most inverter manufacturers (such as Sungrow, Growatt, SMA, Solis, Fronius) explicitly state in their warranty terms that component failures caused by improper grounding, floating neutral voltages, or ungrounded AC/DC surge protection will void the product warranty. Ensuring separate AC, DC, and Lightning Arrestor earthing pits with tested resistance guarantees warranty compliance and equipment longevity.

The tilt angle of solar modules determines the amount of solar irradiance captured throughout the year and ensures natural cleaning (dust washing during rainfall).

If solar panels are installed completely flat (0 degrees), rainwater and dust accumulate on the glass frame, creating localized hotspot shadows, reduced power output, and cell degradation over time. Conversely, an optimal tilt angle optimizes the sun’s angle of incidence, maximizing annual kilowatt-hour (kWh) generation and enabling rainwater to naturally wash away dust and debris.

The ideal tilt angle for a fixed-tilt rooftop solar PV system is generally equal to the geographical latitude of the installation location (e.g., approximately 26° to 28° in Northern India / Delhi-NCR).

In practice, a tilt angle between 10° to 15° facing true South is widely adopted for rooftop installations in India to minimize wind load resistance, optimize structural space, reduce shadow inter-row spacing, and maintain effective rainwater self-cleaning without requiring excessive structural mounting heights.

For a safe and standard grid-tied rooftop solar power installation, a minimum of 3 independent Earthing Pits (or dedicated earthing grids) must be performed:
  • DC Earthing Pit: Connected to the solar PV panel frames, Module Mounting Structures (MMS), and DC Distribution Boxes (DCDB).
  • AC Earthing Pit: Connected to the solar inverter’s AC ground terminal, AC Distribution Box (ACDB), and main distribution panel.
  • LA (Lightning Arrestor) Earthing Pit: Dedicated exclusively to the Lightning Arrestor terminal to safely dissipate atmospheric lightning strikes without inducing high surge voltages into the plant’s electrical equipment.
